The Science Behind Wet & Forget’s Gentle Process

Allow us to put on our chemistry hats and explain exactly why this non-caustic, non-acidic surface cleaner not only works. Plus, it works without damaging your surfaces.
What is the pH?
The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. A pH of 7 is classified as neutral(pure water has a pH of 7), a pH of 0 to 3 is classified as highly acidic(oxalic acid falls within this range), and a pH of 11 to 14 is a highly caustic substance(bleach and ammonia are examples of these).
With a pH of 8, Wet & Forget is close to neutral. This means Wet & Forget is very gentle and safe to apply to any surface. It will remove moss, mold and mildew stains and leave your surfaces untouched.
Most moss, mold and mildew removal products are either highly acidic (with a pH of roughly 1) or highly caustic(pH of around 12). Also, these products may be able to remove as much as you’d like them to remove, but they can easily damage the surface you’re trying to clean in the first place.

Can we use Wet & Forget on our golf carts? They are made with fiberglass and our water leaves a white calcium residue on them after washing.
I thought Wet and Forget might remove the calcium stain?

I have a lot of trees that overhang my concrete sidewalk and driveway. There is a dark discoloration on the concrete directly under and close to the trees. I’ve always assumed that this is caused by something coming down from the trees rather than mold or mildew. Power washing will remove the discoloration, but it’s a lot of work and only temporary since the staining returns within a year or less. Do you think Wet & Forget will help my situation?

If you have pollen, sap or leaf stains on the concrete, Wet & Forget will not be able to help. However, if you have a black or green mold that has formed due to leaves or sap from the trees sitting on the surface for an extended period of time, Wet & Forget will clean that up for you. I have stains on my asphalt shingles (dark streaks that many homes tend to get on the unsunny side of their roof in the new england area). Contractors believe that it is due to a mold or mildew. Have you heard of this condition before and will your product hurt the tiles and remove the stains?

Thanks for contacting us with your question. Yes, you can use Wet & Forget on your log home to clean up moss, mold and mildew. Wet & Forget is best applied with a pump up garden sprayer, backpack sprayer, or commercial agricultural sprayer with a diaphragm pump system. The reason we recommend these types of sprayers is because Wet & Forget requires a 5:1 dilution rate. Most pressure washers and hose end sprayers cannot facilitate a 5:1 and dilute the product too far. If you have an attachment on your pressure washer that allows you to draw out of a pre-mixed container of Wet & Forget (without hooking your pressure washer up to the water source) you can use your pressure washer to apply it. Good morning,
Wet & Forget has worked flawlessly on my roof for the past couple of years.
Removing mildew stains from vinyl boat seat cushions has always been a problem. Once removed, it’s always been a problem of preventing the mildew from reoccuring.
Can I use Wet & Forget without damaging the vinyl? Thanks!

Per our labeling, we recommend applying the Wet & Forget to the vinyl seating when the boat is out of the water. Once the Wet & Forget dries, you can put the boat back in the water again. You will need to water these areas down once a week or once every two weeks with your garden hose or pump up sprayer after you apply the Wet & Forget. Yes, you can use Wet & Forget on any part of your boat, including the dacron sails. It would be best to apply the Wet & Forget prior to the boating season when you will have the boat out and exposed to the wind and rain, which helps the Wet & Forget cleaning process.

We advise keeping people and pets off surfaces applied to while they are wet from your application. Once the surface is dry, pets and people can return to the area. Wet & Forget should take roughly 4-6 hours to dry completely. When applying Wet & Forget near plants/grass, we recommend protecting all plants/grass from the overspray to avoid spotting. You can do this by thoroughly rinsing the plants/grass with clear water before and after the application of Wet & Forget or you can cover the plants/grass when applying the Wet & Forget.
