How Wet & Forget Outdoor Annihilates Stains on Patios and Pavers
Pavers are an attractive option for building driveways, patios and pathways around your home. Whether they’re made of concrete, brick, flagstones or reclaimed materials, pavers give you the flexibility to create a long-lasting surface that is just the size and shape you’re looking for.
But unless you stay on top of things, your pavers can become covered with moss, lichen, black or green algae, or mold and mildew. Don’t let your pavers become slippery eyesores, and don’t fall into the trap of cleaning again and again with a pressure washer or bleach.
Just spray Wet & Forget Outdoor, walk away, and let us do the work for you! Read on to find out how.
Wipe Out Moss
Moss is a green, fuzzy carpet-like growth that thrives in moist areas with partial shade. It can grow directly on pavers, or fill the gaps between them, like you see in the photo above.
Moss has tiny root-like structures that adhere it to surfaces, and can cause pitting in some materials. Once moss gets a foothold, it can be very difficult to remove with bleach or a pressure washer.
Many homeowners resort to hard labor to get rid of moss around their pavers, like Tom in Washington State, who wrote to us on Facebook about how Wet & Forget Outdoor ended his struggles with moss on his driveway pavers:
“I can visibly see the difference in my pavers from last year. I was scraping moss from between them last spring and the year before, I hired someone to clean the moss from them. This year, no green moss at all where the pavers are shadowed by shrubs and no tedious scraping for me around each paver with scissor blades! I made only two applications of Wet and Forget, one in late Spring and one in early Fall. I don’t own a power washer.”
Now that he’s through battling moss around his pavers, Tom is free to spend his time outdoors having fun.
Wet & Forget Outdoor kills moss and causes its root-like structures to release their stranglehold on your pavers. This makes it easy for the moss to wash away in the rain, or for you to remove it with some light brushing.
And Wet & Forget Outdoor won’t kill your lawn like bleach can do, or leave the area a muddy mess like a pressure washer would. It’s a no-brainer! Simply spray and forget about it!
To kill moss:
- Mix 1 part Wet & Forget Outdoor with 5 parts water in a pump-up garden sprayer.
- Spray the solution on the moss at a time when the temperature is above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Be sure to soak the moss thoroughly to allow the solution to reach the root-like structures. Allow at least 4 to 5 hours’ drying time before the threat of rain.
- Walk away, and let Wet & Forget take care of your moss problem. The moss will gradually turn brown and lift away from the pavers.
- If necessary, lightly brush the area with a broom or deck brush to remove the dead moss. Wet & Forget Outdoor will keep your pavers moss-free for a year or more in most cases; re-apply at the first sign of re-growth to keep moss away.
Eliminate Lichen
Lichen is a scaly growth that comes in many colors, from green, to red, to gold. It can grow on just about any outdoor surface, even glass, and has been found on all continents, including Antarctica.
Lichen grabs onto your pavers, and can be very difficult to remove. It can also damage some surfaces.
Lichen is a multi-layered growth that is made up of fungus and algae working together. This makes lichen very hardy and difficult to kill.
But if you resort to caustic chemicals to remove lichen, you could end up with a dead lawn or damage to some types of pavers.
Wet & Forget Outdoor uses its gentle strength to penetrate lichen’s layers and leave your pavers looking gorgeous, without damaging them. Who says strength can’t be gentle?
To defeat lichen:
- Mix 1 part Wet & Forget Outdoor with 5 parts water in a pump-up garden sprayer.
- Saturate the lichen with the Wet & Forget solution at a time when the temperature is above 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Wait 20 minutes, and then re-saturate the lichen. This allows Wet & Forget to penetrate lichen’s multiple layers. This process works best when the sun is not extremely bright, so that the solution does not dry too quickly.
- Allow the solution at least 4 to 5 hours to dry before the chance of rain.
- Relax, and let Wet & Forget Outdoor do the work for you!
Erase Green Algae
Green algae is a simple plant that thrives in moist, shady areas. It can cause severe staining on your pavers, making them look like a science experiment.
Worst of all, green algae can become extremely slippery, making your driveway, patio or walkway a dangerous area for people to walk.
Using bleach or a pressure washer to remove algae is a big hassle that can kill your lawn or make a muddy mess, and the algae will start to grow again almost from the moment you put your cleaning supplies back in the garage.
Wet & Forget Outdoor annihilates green algae on your pavers with no elbow grease required and keeps it from coming back for a year or more in most cases. The choice is simple!
To zap green algae:
- Mix 1 part Wet & Forget Outdoor with 5 parts water in a pump-up garden sprayer.
- Spray the Wet & Forget solution on the affected area when the temperature is above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Allow 4 to 5 hours for the solution to dry before the chance of rain.
- Put your feet up, and let Wet & Forget Outdoor take care of the algae!
- Re-apply at the first sign of re-growth to keep green algae away for good.
Say Goodbye to Black Algae
Black algae is a type of cyanobacteria that can grow on many outdoor surfaces, such as roofs, sidewalks and pavers. Unlike green algae, black algae has a special capsule that protects it from the sun’s rays, making it able to thrive even in the sunniest areas.
This protective capsule is also what gives black algae its dark color, leaving the affected surface covered in ugly black or gray streaks and splotches. Left alone, black algae can continue to build up over time until your pavers look like they’re covered in soot.
You don’t have to resort to caustic chemicals or a messy pressure washer to get rid of black algae. Wet & Forget Outdoor works with the wind and rain to gradually remove black algae over time, and keep it away for a year or more in most cases.
Black algae’s protective capsule makes it take longer to fade away than other growths, but your patience will pay off when you see your gorgeous, algae-free pavers. And since Wet & Forget Outdoor prevents re-growth for a year or more in most cases, you won’t need to clean again and again like you have to do with bleach or a pressure washer. You have better things to do!
To annihilate black algae:
- To apply the Wet & Forget Concentrate, mix 1 part Wet & Forget with 5 parts water in a pump-up garden sprayer.
- Saturate the affected pavers with the Wet & Forget solution when the temperature is above 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Allow 4 to 5 hours’ drying time before the threat of rain.
- For severe cases, re-apply after a few weeks.
- Relax, and watch the black algae fade away over time.

How long will wet&forget be active on unsealed brick patio pavers?
Wet and Forget
Once the Wet & Forget is dry on the pavers, it is no longer active. The rain won’t reactivate the product.

Im worried I used wet and forget on my grey pavers on my patio its been 4 hours and the color is still a brown look .
Wet and Forget
Hi Janice! As the growth dies off on the surface it can change colors. This is likely what is occurring on the pavers. It is a temporary reaction. Over time, the rain and wind will gently remove this off the surface. You can also rinse the pavers periodically starting the day after applying to help accelerate the cleaning process if you’d like.

Just installed white concrete pavers in mud over old concrete patio. Edges are all light brown. Bleach did not remove. Don’t want to seal until discoloration issue resolved. Any ideas?
Wet and Forget
Wet & Forget isn’t designed to remove mud on pavers. It will clean up any moss, mold, mildew or algae stains here.
