4 Beautiful Blooms That Will Make Mom Smile for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and we’re all making plans to show Mom just how much we care.

Whether you’re taking the special lady out to dinner, whipping up a home-cooked meal or surprising her with a special gift, Mother’s Day is the perfect time to show your mom, or the mother of your children, how much she means to you.

Why not give Mom something beautiful to look at and sweet to smell while you shower her with love?

Here are 4 lovely flowers for a lovely lady, and all 4 can be potted or planted to last much longer than cut flowers. Have a happy Mother’s Day!

  • New Guinea Impatiens

New Guinea Impatiens are lovely flowers that can be grown as perennials in USDA hardiness zones 10a to 11a (e.g. Los Angeles and San Diego), and are favorite annual flowers for the rest of us. Their round blooms boast 5 heart-shaped petals that make them perfect “I love you” flowers.

They come in a variety of colors–the orange are truly striking–and are resistant to the downy mildew disease that can be a disaster for common Impatiens. New Guinea Impatiens make lovely planter flowers, window boxes or hanging baskets.

  • Fuchsia

If Mom has slightly more exotic taste, check out the glamorous fuchsia. Because this distinctive plant has alluring red and purple blooms that flow downward, it makes it ideal for hanging baskets (see photo).

Even better, fuchsia will thrive in shady or sunny areas, so Mom can hang it out in the sun or under the patio awning. Wherever Mom chooses to enjoy her fuchsia, its striking blooms will certainly catch her eye.

  • Pansies

Pansies get their name from the French word for “to think,” because their gently nodding “heads” can look like someone deep in thought. Bi-colored pansies also have a “face” in the middle of each bloom that makes their name even more fitting.

Names aside, the pansy is such a popular annual flower for good reason. It’s very hardy and easy to care for, it works well for everything from hanging baskets to borders, and it comes in just about every color you can think of.

Pansies need plentiful sunlight to thrive, so make sure they will be near a window or outside in an un-shaded area.

  • Plant Mom a Beautiful Border

If Mom’s been wanting to beautify her outdoor space, why not plant her a beautiful border? Border flowers really add character and artistic flair and, if you plant perennials, Mom will be able to enjoy a colorful reminder of your love for years to come.

Of course, this is something you will need to discuss first; Mom will probably enjoy choosing which flowers she would like best.

Better Homes and Gardens has a list of 20 top perennial flowers that you can use as a starting point. Perennial sage is a wonderful choice, with its beautiful blue flowers and attractive grayish foliage.

Your willingness to put in some time and elbow grease will let this special lady know how much she means to you.

And…

If you really want to make Mom smile, save her some time and elbow grease and offer to take over cleaning the shower. It just might be her favorite present of all, and it will be a snap if you pick up some Wet & Forget Shower.

All you have to do is spray the shower once a week to keep it sparkling–no scrubbing needed!

Happy Mother’s Day from Wet & Forget!
