RV Decorating Ideas: Easy Ways to Style Your Home Away from Home

Restyling your RV interior can be a fun project, but you may have questions before you start.  Here, we cover simple RV decorating ideas and how-tos for organizing and cleaning your RV.

What’s the latest trend in RV decorating?

Sprucing up your RV with metallic or earth-toned accents is a popular RV trend.

Metal and Metallic Decor

Liven up your RV with industrial-chic by adding metallic decor and accessories. Choose to add furnishings and accessories in shiny silver, gold, or chrome.

Toss a few metallic-toned throw pillows on the couch or bed for a modern vibe. Change out RV and camper knobs and handles for shiny silver or chrome versions for a retro-modern feel.

Decorating with Earth Tones

Add and paint with earthy greens, soft browns, tans, oranges, and warm red to create a nature-inspired, 70s vibe interior for your camper.

What RV decor style is best for me?

Take a cue from your home’s interior. Do you prefer Modern, Contemporary, or Farmhouse style interiors? Transfer your home’s style to your RV interior. Or, add a totally different look inside the camper.

Pick a Theme

For a personal touch, make sure to pick a consistent decorating theme throughout the space. Keep your theme and look in mind when you choose paint colors, curtains, pillows, towels, accessories, and wall decor.

A few popular RV and camper decorating ideas and themes include:

  • Travel
  • Retro style (1950s,’60s, ’70s, etc.)
  • Outdoor sports (fishing, sailing, skiing, etc.)
  • Shabby Chic
  • Coastal
  • Hawaiian Tiki lounge
  • A favorite sports team

If you aren’t sure how to start your makeover, choosing a decor theme is an excellent place to start. Your favorite theme and RV decor will give your home-on-wheels a cozy, cohesive feel.

RV Decorating Ideas: Organize Essentials and Save Space

An RV means tight living quarters, so it’s best to use any and all available space you have wisely.

Maximize your space by using decor that is both attractive and functional. Some examples include:

  • Woven or wire bins hung on the wall to hold fruits and vegetables in the kitchen
  • Herbs growing in a hanging planter to provide fresh ingredients for meals
  • Wall hooks to hold hand towels and cookware.
  • Paint the interior with crisp white paint to visually expand the space.
  • Apply decorative wall decals instead of framed art.
  • Consider convertible furniture – add multi-use furnishings to maximize the space and add modern style.
  • Installing open shelving will make your space seems more open and airy. Plus, it’s an excellent way to organize your everyday essentials.
  • Use fabric bins to store clothing and linens on closet shelves. This prevents items from falling and getting jumbled during transit.
  • Organize the bath with these DIY bathroom storage ideas.
Make a DIY Flower Wall

A faux flower wall is an inexpensive way to decorate above your bed. This lovely DIY floral design is lightweight and won’t fall when securely fastened.

What You’ll Need

  • Approximately 6 faux flower bouquets (each bouquet should have about 12 flowers)
  • Fishing line (clear)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Small nails or pushpins
  • Wire cutters or needle-nose pliers

Start by trimming stemmed flowers from bouquets using wire cutters. Cut each flower as close to the base as possible, keeping the stem attached.

Place cut flowers on a table and organize them by color. Learn more at Sweetteal.com.

DIY a Wood Block Wall

Bob Vila, home repair expert, suggests, “Use the broad side of wood planks (cross-sections) to create a wall with an artful effect. Glue varying 1-inch, 1.5-inch, and 2-inch cuts of untreated posts to a plywood backing, and then attach the entire unit to your wall to bring pattern and texture.

Make No-Sew Camper Curtains

The stock curtains that come with most RVs are often dull. Adding new curtains in a fun pattern is a simple but effective way to up your camper style.

What You’ll Need To Make

  • Your old curtains – to use as a pattern
  • Curtain fabric (measure your old curtains to determine yardage).
  • Sewing supplies – scissors, measuring tape or ruler, seaming tape, steam iron, and hot glue.
  1. Remove the curtain hooks from the old curtains – save for reuse.
  2. Measure and cut your fabric, using your old curtains as a pattern.
  3. Hem each raw end of the fabric with seaming tape.
  4. Add the curtains to the walls of your camper and that’s it!
Create a Lighted Photo Display

This lighted wall display will brighten your camper. Use photos of your friends, family, and favorite locales.

What You’ll Need To Make

  • String lights
  • Fasteners (small clothespins, washi tape)
  • Damage-free hanging hooks
  • Clear packaging tape
  1. Attach hanging hooks to the wall
  2. Drape the string lights over the hooks
  3. Using fasteners, attach photos to light wiring. Place the photos in-between light bulbs.
  4. Attach the battery pack to the wall with clear packaging tape. (Hide the battery pack behind a curtain or bed.)
