Successfully Grow Upside Down Tomatoes in a Beautiful Hanging Planter

Several years ago we re-pinned an article on growing tomatoes upside down in a bucket.  The pin has really picked up traction on Pinterest this year so we wanted to elaborate on the upside-down tomato idea and see if we could successfully grow tomatoes upside down in a more aesthetically pleasing manner.

We decided to try growing upside down tomatoes in a hanging planter with a coconut liner.  We cut holes in the bottom of the liner and placed our tomato plants evenly along the bottom and then filled the top of the planter with purple grass and a few flowers.

I must say, we are very happy with the look of our hanging basket and so far everything is going well!  As of yesterday, we found small yellow flowers blooming on the tomato plants, which is a good sign.

Now we just need them to be fertilized so we will start to see small tomatoes forming over the next few weeks.

Are you interested in growing upside down tomatoes but not interested in testing different methods? We found a really neat planter that can be purchased from Sam’s Club that will do the trick!

Grow tomatoes upside down with this nifty planter idea!
